Ron Schmeits

Ron Schmeits is a steadfast defender of Second Amendment, individual gun owner’s freedoms and the right to self-defense. While serving as New Mexico Governor’s adviser on Second Amendment issues, he worked with the Governor and the Legislature to pass the New Mexico Right to Carry Act and successfully opposed red flag laws and waiting periods on firearms purchases. Subsequently he successfully worked to oppose an executive order banning open and concealed carry in public places.
As a former bank president and bank examiner, Ron Schmeits has extensive financial expertise and management experience. He believes in strong operating policies, procedures and internal accounting controls with independent oversight. He served on the NRA Finance Committee and participated in the oversight of NRA’s reform of business practices that was noted by the New York judge in his decision to dismiss the New York Attorney General’s attempt to dissolve the NRA. As Chairman of the NRA Special Contribution Fund (the NRA Whittington Center), Schmeits has maintained financially sound operations while overseeing a major expansion of the Whittington Center shooting facilities.
